June

This month, like all months, seems to be busier than the one before it. We are in full "goal setting" mode trying to get in all the things we want to and need to do this summer. We're also in the midst of World Cup fever in this house. GO USA!

Here are some highlights from June:

  • margaritas for Chelsea's birthday
  • started Downton Abbey
  • volunteered for the United Way's BKO Food Drive
  • BINGO at Sesame Place
  • sushi date
  • Franklin Fountain
  • dress shopping with my mom
  • wrapped up art class for the summer

On to an even busier July!

April

I completed my first solo set painting project this month. I had seven hours to complete it the night before dress rehearsal, and I did it! I feel like I'm being a little boastful, but I don't care. I'm pretty proud of myself. Can't wait till the next show!

March

Loving Lately
  • my karate teams: practice with them is the BEST way to start and end my week. from the little ones who love to give me hugs, to the sassy teenagers that make me laugh, I can't imagine not being there. I'm sure I'm a bit biased, but I think these teams are pretty special.
  • sunny days
  • going running

New projects
  • black and white frames for the bedroom
  • floral skirt
  • daily goals: one for myself, one for my relationship, and one for others

New snacks
  • Kale chips - the jury is still out on these. Nick loves them but I'm not a big fan of the smell

Challenges Are Opportunities

I was talking to my dad the other day and he said something that really stuck with me.

For the past few months Nick and I have been struggling to figure out how to live responsibly and on a budget. After doing research and getting a system down I asked myself “Why didn’t my parents ever help me with this?” After all, when I was growing up they were always on top of their bills: mortgage, car payments, etc. They seemed to have it figured out. My mom and dad were really great role models but, now, in my 20’s, I wanted to be let in on the secret. How did they do it?

During our conversation my dad explained that he and my mom purposefully left me in the dark. They wanted me to figure it out on my own and they knew that I would be better for it. Adversity and problem solving skills like this will make me more independent.

I loved it - how genius of them.

"Challenges are opportunities." I hope I never forget it.
